I’ve been throwing around the idea of doing a triathlon this summer and wanted to see how good of shape I was in. I headed up to the gym and got into the pool on Wednesday and was very surprised to do 75 lengths in about 45 minutes. There are no markers saying how long the pool is but I guess its about 25 yards long. This would mean I swam 25 yards x 75 times = 1875 yards x 3 = 5625 feet / 5280 feet in a mile = 1.06 miles. I only took 1 minute breaks every 20 laps mainly to clean out my goggles.
On Friday I went up a notch and did 100 lengths. So 100 lengths x 25 yards = 2500 yards x 3 = 7500 feet / 5280 feet in a mile = 1.42 miles. I’ve never swam that far. It took me right around an hour to do it.
I was very impressed with how far I could swim but something else surprised me and that was a lack of soreness. On neither day after my swim did I feel any soreness. I’m not sure if its because I’m in great shape or its from the P90X supplements I’ve been taking like the vitamins and especially the P90X recovery drink. Only recently have I included the vitamins into the mix but the stuff must be working as there is no way that I should be able to swim 1.42 miles and not feel sore the next day or be able to do it as easily as it felt like I did. Maybe I should look into doing a triathlon after all. If I can do this well already with no event training I wonder if I could do better than just finish.
