@ Heather
You are way tougher than I am. Maybe I should do a triathlon. I keep telling myself I want to do one and maybe now's the time.

Good luck with your Ironman.

Thanks Brad. I'm going to start P90X in 3 weeks, 2 weeks after my Ironman this coming weekend. If things go as well as I think they're going to during my race, it will be really interesting to see how P90X will make me even stronger and more well rounded for my next Ironman in 2010 (Cozumel). I also have a half marathon in December that I'd really like to hit a PB for and I think strengthening my hip flexors, quads, etc., will definitely help me to do that.

By the way, after 3 rounds of P90X you should really look into the world of triathlon. It's addictive though so look out!

@ Heather

First off, you are a bad ass. I want to do a Ironman or even just a triathlon. I just have not committed to it yet.

After doing P90X 3 times I started swimming again. What I noticed was that my upper body was so much stronger then before as P90X works a lot of back, shoulder, and core strength. It felt like I was powering through the water.

I did the Detroit Marathon before doing P90X and I will not forget how bad my knees hurt the next day. I did not do any leg workouts, just running, for my training. If I run one again there will be a lot more leg workouts added.

After doing P90X I can faster then before. I have not gone on any long distance runs since the marathon (5 mile longest) and the endurance is still there.

From what I have experienced, the muscle you built up is still going to be there while you work on other things. Try cutting back on the amount of days or distances you swim, run, or bike and incorporate P90X instead.

Hi Brad, I was hoping to ask you for a bit of advice. I'm a triathlete and have been training for a late summer Ironman for the past 9 months. Generally I then take the fall off from training (well heavy, specific training anyway) so I'm looking for something new that will not only help me to stay in shape, but also will help me to become stronger in triathlon. From the research I have already done P90X seems like the ideal program, even the ideal amount of time as 3 months is exactly how long my "off season" is, but I'm worried about fitting in all my other off season training: 2-3 swims a week (1-2 miles each), 2-3 runs a week (half marathon training) and the occasional set on the bike trainer. How does P90X allow for this? What's your opinion?

Thanks,
Heather
