Weekly Workouts For 2-9-09 to 2-15-09
I have decided to start a new way for me to better track what type of workouts or activities I have done by doing a weekly recap on everything I did. This way I can pin point exactly what I did. For the most part I keep track of everything in my workout guides but this way is more fun.
Monday (2/9/09) - To start out the week I decided to head to the gym. The only reason I kept my gym membership is because the one I am a member of has a pool. There are no outdoor pools in Michigan in February for a good reason. What I did for this day was a 5 mile run on the treadmill at a 3 degree incline. Then I headed over to the chin up bar. Its different doing chin ups at the gym because they have a apparatus which is 8 feet high. I need to jump up to get on those bars. At my house I have to drop from the pull up bar because it is a little higher than 6 feet. Did 15 chin ups. From there I headed down to the pool and did 60 lengths (30 laps). Felt very good when I was finished.
Tuesday (2/10/09) - Was very excited today because I received my "Showcase Pack" from Beachbody that I bought from signing up to be a Beachbody Coach. Brought out the P90X Legs and Back DVD. I used my normal 25 -35 pound dumbbells to do the leg workouts. For the chin up portion I started out very strong. I did 14 reverse grip, 9 wide front, 13 closed grip, and 10 switch grip pull ups. For the second round I did 9, 7, 7, and 13 respectively. I used a lot of energy in the first round and did not have enough left over to bring it home on the second round. I came up 4 chin up/pull ups short of my chin up record for this workout. My current record is 82 and now I did 78. I worked out with dad today. He did the best he could on the leg workouts. Since he could not do the pull ups I wrapped the new "B-Line Resistance Bands" I got around the pull up bar and he would pull on the band from a kneeling position. His shoulders popped all the way through the workout. It was kind of gross but I know it was loosening things up.
Wednesday (2/11/09) - Took the day off.
Thursday (2/12/09) - Headed back to the gym. Ran 3 miles on the treadmill at a 3.5 degree incline. This was a little tougher than what I was expecting. The extra .5 degree on the incline works the calves and quads more. Did 20 pull ups. Swam 60 lengths (30 laps) in the pool. Felt like I am getting faster in the pool. Probably need to get a watch to time myself better. Felt a little sore at night from the treadmill.
Friday (2/12/09) - Dad was telling me that he "was not all that sore" from the workouts we have done so far. I took this as a cue to push him a little. It was time for P90X Chest, Shoulders, Triceps. He was not all excited after the first exercise where we did the "Slow Motion 3-in-1 Push Ups." This was the last thing he was expecting to start a workout on. I tried the resistance bands for the first time in this workout and they made a difference. I used the purple band and dad used the pink. I could hear his shoulders popping again but even he admitted he enjoyed this workout because of his shoulders being so bad. Dad cannot do a normal "guy push up" yet so instead of calling them "girl push ups" my brother came up with the name of "senior push ups." Dad did senior push ups for the entire workout. He did struggle a lot and his form was sub par. It was tricky trying to workout myself while watching him. His senior push up looks like he is swooping down to the ground and not dropping to it like he should be. I did do way better on one exercise in particular. For the "side arm balance" part I was able to increase the amount I could do from 15 to 20 total in the one minute you get to do it. For those who do not know what this is its a move where you do a push up then move onto one arm and reach up to the ceiling with the other while putting your opposite foot on your other one. Then you drop back down into a push up and do the other side until you can't do anymore. Here is a photo of me doing one.
Saturday (2/14/09) - For Valentines Day my girlfriend and I were going to head up to one of our favorite restaurants called " The Union" in Clarkston, MI with two other couples. They have the worlds best Mac & Cheese. Its so popular it even made it on the "Today Show." Noodles and I do not get along well but every time we go there I get it. Its just that good. Since I knew I was going to eat it I ran 3 miles on the treadmill at 3.5 degree incline and skipped lunch so I would have some space for the Mac & Cheese. This was a smart move because I was able to finish off a full order of it with ham along with a couple choice adult beverages they have on tap.
Sunday (2/15/09) - Since it snowed a little bit the day before my girlfriend and I along with our friends Dave and Jackie went snowboarding at Alpine Valley. My legs felt really good on the board from the running I did this week.
In summary, I did a P90X workout or did some sort of activity 6 days this week. The days I did not work out with Dad directly he went on the treadmill and walked 2 miles on his own. I am happy that he is staying on this and I even started telling him what to eat. He has a major sweet tooth and can't admit it. He even thought it was a good idea to eat lunch and have a Diet Pepsi before we worked out. His logic baffles me. He said he needed something in his stomach before we worked out. A banana would have been better. Looking forward to this up coming week because me and some friends are heading on our annual "Mancation" to go skiing at Mount Tremblant in Quebec.
