There are a couple things I want to share with you so make sure you read this entire post. I know the Season 8 of American Idol is over and Season 9 starts on January 12th but I found a picture showing how Tony Horton was training the contestants with P90X.
You can see Adam Lambert and Allison Irahetain in this photo with Tony Horton as they take a look at the P90X workout guides. I’ve even read that Season 7 contestant David Archuleta has Twittered about using P90X.
Its really cool seeing Tony out there sharing P90X with people. Pro athletes, celebrities, and now American Idol Contestants using P90X. Who would of thought? Well, anybody that does P90X of course.
As an added bonus I’d like to throw in a personal American Idol story. One of my best friends is a amazing singer. When he was younger he traveled with a choir to Europe and now being a mechanic in the Air Force is the guy that gets asked to sing the National Anthem at large military events.
He tried out for American Idol two years ago when it was at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. His audition did not go so well. You get 15 seconds to belt out a quick verse to impress a producer of the show. I guess standing in line for hours can take a toll on you. The worst part for him was watching people with no singing abilities get asked to move on. It must have been for the show where all of the bad singers get featured.
When he got back home he continued to do Karaoke when he would go out with his wife. Its awesome watching him. He continued to enter into Karaoke contests. They have competitions in Florida where you start out at bars or small stages and keep moving on if you win. Well, Joe entered one and kept on winning. He made it to the point where he won a chance to sing on the American Idol Experience stage at Disney World.
Grand Prize is a Golden Ticket to the front of the line to sing in front of Simon, Paula, and Randy. Talk about a possible life changing experience. I was not there for the event and the only video available was taken from another contestants family. There is more to this story but fast forward the video to 5:11 to watch my buddy Joe sing “Just Once.”
Pretty good huh! Well, he won.
What happened next gets my choked up. After he was announced the winner and given the Golden Ticket he was asked to come back stage. The American Idol rules state that all contestants have to be no older than 28. Joe turned 29 two months before this. Unfortunately with him being too old he would not be allowed to move on.
There were 3 more videos on YouTube but have been taken down by the person who took this one. The video after this one shows him winning. The following one shows whats going on back stage. The last one shows Joe giving the Golden Ticket to the guy who sang first in this video as he was the runner up.
I guess Joe knew ahead of time that if he won he would not be allowed to move on if he won. If he would of been allowed to sing in front of Simon, Paula, and Randy I know he would of made it through to the next round.
