5 Miles On The Bike, 3 Miles Running, .5 Mile Swimming

By Brad Gibala On December 16, 2008 1 Comment

I was starting to feel a whole lot better today after a nice relaxing weekend. I had not done any kind of working out since I had a huge pain in my neck last week. It still kind of hurts but at least it moves with a more normal range of motion. All that I did over the past week was run. No P90X for me. I did not want to re-injure any pinched nerves in my neck and have to skip out on another week of doing anything. Funny thing happened on Saturday. I broke the treadmill. Now its either run outside in the cold Michigan winter or get on a treadmill at the gym. Off to the gym.

So today it was time to get back on the horse. I headed off to my gym and decided to switch things up a little bit. Doing the triathlon has been in the back of my mind and I am slowly introducing a workout routine for it. I made it up in my mind to do 5 miles on a stationary bike, 3 miles on the treadmill, and .5 mile in the pool. After the bike and treadmill I would do as many pull ups and chin ups as I could do.

It had been some time since I went upstairs at Life Time Fitness. I usually go right to the pool and leave. They do have some nice equipment and it was mid-day so there was not that much traffic. They have these cool new bikes there that have screens in the middle with 10 TV channels on it. You can keep track of how fast and how far you

Ran 5 Miles Today For The First Time In Awhile

By Brad Gibala On September 17, 2008 No Comments

Today was the first time in awhile that I ran 5 miles. I have been feeling kind of out of it since last friday. I do not know what it is but I just could not get my energy levels up. I went swimming yesterday and could only get half of my normal 30 laps in. It might have been mental but I just could not push through.

I went about my normal daily routine and at night I decided to go for a run. I knew I needed to do something. I was not going to do any P90X workouts because I am trying to stick with a cardio routine and drop a little bit of weight. There is something that hits a switch in my head when I am running. Its either "3 miles sounds good" or "lets keep going." There is a point in my run where I can either take a left at an intersection and it will be a 3 mile run or I keep going and I am at the farthest point away from my house and its a 5 mile run whatever way I go. I decided to do the 5 miles. I was surprised that I was able to do it. I was not going real fast but I completed it all without taking any breaks. The P90X DVDs probably have something to do with this. I think it has been 2 months since I have gone for a run that far. Its great knowing that all of the strength training in my legs has helped out.

What is funny to me about running is that my body remembers things and all of sudden will wake up when its not use to doing something. This has happened
