I ran and she walked with her two friends. There were a lot of people out there. The first mile of the run was more like a jog, there was just no place to go. It was not until mile 2 where it opened up allowing you to weave through people. It took me awhile to get to the start line and there was just no room to start sprinting. It was no big deal as I wasn’t trying to win. I finished the run in about 25 minutes…not great, but ok. There were a bunch of skinny dudes out there who blew by me. I only run about 4 miles a week now so doing a little over 8 minute miles in traffic is ok for me. We also wore our <a

I’ve read that they have raised over $17.5 million in the city of Detroit since 1992. That is truly amazing. Hopefully they will be able to find a cure for breast cancer in my lifetime.

On the lighter side of things. I get a kick out of how its ok to talk about women’s breasts in this situation. There must of been over 70 different shirts that had something like “I love the Ta-Ta’s” on them.
Post from: <a

He started running marathons at age 37 but got injured a couple years later and put on 35 pounds. He said he was trying to find a workout to help him get back into shape and would you believe he found P90X. I could not believe it when he said P90X helped him shed 45 minutes off of his time. That is ridiculous. That is almost 2 minutes faster for each mile over a 26.2 mile run. After finishing he decided to give the Catalina Ultra Marathon a shot. If you do not know what a ultra marathon is, its a race where you run 50 – 100 miles. The one thing he said that helped him the most was all of the core workouts like Cardio X and Ab Ripper X.

What I like about this video is that it shows us that even a guy who is 40 years old can do P90X and get in shape. This guy took it to the next level with ultra marathons, but the results he had with the weight loss and shedding 45 minutes off of his best marathon time goes to show you that P90X works!!
<p

I had not done any kind of working out since I had a huge pain in my neck last week. It still kind of hurts but at least it moves with a more normal range of motion. All that I did over the past week was run. No P90X for me. I did not want to re-injure any pinched nerves in my neck and have to skip out on another week of doing anything. Funny thing happened on Saturday. I broke the treadmill. Now its either run outside in the cold Michigan winter or get on a treadmill at the gym. Off to the gym.

So today it was time to get back on the horse. I headed off to my gym and decided to switch things up a little bit. Doing the triathlon has been in the back of my mind and I am slowly introducing a workout routine for it. I made it up in my mind to do 5 miles on a stationary bike, 3 miles on the treadmill, and .5 mile in the pool. After the bike and treadmill I would do as many pull ups and chin ups as I could do.

It had been some time since I went upstairs at Life Time Fitness. I usually go right to the pool and leave. They do have some nice equipment and it was mid-day so there was not that much traffic. They have these cool new bikes there that have screens in the middle with 10 TV channels on it. You can keep track of how fast and how far you are going while watching Sports Center or CNN. Cool!! My five miles was over before I knew it. Only took 16 minutes to do. On to the chin up bar. It was different than doing them at home. My P90X Pull Up Bar is great but my doorway is not that high so I have to drop down to get going. The gym has a bar that is 8 feet off the ground so I had to jump up to get it. I did 12 chin ups, 6 wide grip pull ups, 7 normal pull ups and then 5 more chin ups for an even 30. On to the treadmill.

The treadmills there are way better than the one I have at home. It felt like I was on that thing forever. I was going at 6.2 mph at a 3% incline. It did not feel the same as mine at home. Right around mile 2 my legs woke up and realized they were in for a workout. I cranked it up to 7 mph for the last mile and was feeling a little gassed but still great. On to the chin up bar. This time I could only do 10 chin ups, 5 wide grip pull ups, and 5 normal pull ups for a total of 20. On to the pool.

My tiredness started to kick in after I finished my first lap. I felt very light in the pool and was warmed up but not enough energy to do my normal swim of 30 laps which is almost a mile. I did get 15 laps done for almost a .5 mile.

Feeling pretty good about myself today. I was able to do 5 miles on the bike, 3 miles on the treadmill, almost .5 mile in the pool swimming while doing a combination of 50 chin ups and pull ups. I know its different being on a treadmill or stationary bike from being outdoors in the elements but I feel like its a minor accomplishment. I don’t feel sore yet and maybe I am in good enough shape to stretch out how far I go with each activity. The swimming was tricky but I just need to get everything else working fine and then work on my hardest part being swimming.
Post from: <a

I have been feeling kind of out of it since last friday. I do not know what it is but I just could not get my energy levels up. I went swimming yesterday and could only get half of my normal 30 laps in. It might have been mental but I just could not push through.

I went about my normal daily routine and at night I decided to go for a run. I knew I needed to do something. I was not going to do any P90X workouts because I am trying to stick with a cardio routine and drop a little bit of weight. There is something that hits a switch in my head when I am running. Its either “3 miles sounds good” or “lets keep going.” There is a point in my run where I can either take a left at an intersection and it will be a 3 mile run or I keep going and I am at the farthest point away from my house and its a 5 mile run whatever way I go. I decided to do the 5 miles. I was surprised that I was able to do it. I was not going real fast but I completed it all without taking any breaks. The P90X DVDs probably have something to do with this. I think it has been 2 months since I have gone for a run that far. Its great knowing that all of the strength training in my legs has helped out.

What is funny to me about running is that my body remembers things and all of sudden will wake up when its not use to doing something. This has happened to me a couple times, especially when I was training for the Detroit Marathon. When I was training I would normally do 5 miles every other day and then on Saturday I would do a 10 mile run. My body seemed to get more energy after doing the 5 miles. My mile times were faster after the 5 miles than before it. It goes to show you how amazing our bodies are and what they can do. I take the same mentality when I do P90X.

Post from: What is strange about the P90X workout is that there is not any time that is put into the P90X workout plan that promotes running. Sure you have the Yoga X, Cardio X, and the hardest P90X workout of all in Plyometrics but what happened to good old running. You know running, its that thing you tell somebody they need to do to get into shape. Tell them to go invest in a good pair of running shoes and start hitting the pavement.

Over the past couple of years I have really been involved in the whole running scene. I’m happy that I finally did. I was that kid playing sports that had the talent to compete in whatever sport I played but just could not get into good shape so the other kids of less skill would out perform me on the field because I was just out of gas. After my college years I realized that I needed to keep myself in shape because this was the rest of my life and I did not want to turn into a tub-o. I decided to start running.

What really got me into running was when I moved from Detroit to Denver. Anybody with sinus problems that has moved from the Great Lakes to the Rocky Mountains knows that breathing is going to become a problem. Running helped me get over the thin air so I could walk normally. I started with 1 mile, then 2, then 3. I actually did the 10k Bolder Boulder. It was the first time I ran 6 miles in one time and I felt proud of it.

Fast forward two years and I am back in the Detroit area still running. I decide one day that I am going to run the Detroit Marathon. This was quite a feat for me because the longest I had run before that was the 10k. But I found some good info about training and gave myself about 4 months to do it.

Well, I did finish the race in a blazing 4 hours 21 minutes and 1 second. Not bad for a first timer. Never mind the next day how much my knees were killing and reading about how some 72 year old man ran the marathon 5 minutes faster than me. That was a real eye opener seeing somebody who was 45 years older than me do that.

P90X workout is not that hard. I did not run nearly as much as I did pre-P90X as I did during P90X. I was doing at least 15 miles a week before and maybe 4 during. I was concerned that I was going to lose the endurance I worked so hard to build up but I stuck with the P90X plan. Surprisingly my results came back better even with me putting on 10 pounds of muscle with P90X. What I learned about the body is that muscle memory is real. Even though my running was less than half of what I did before, the endurance was still there. When I introduced the cardio workouts like Plyometrics, Cardio X, Yoga, and Kenpo it worked on my weaknesses. Over the 90 days those muscles grew stronger and now complimented my stronger ones that I worked on so much before. I remember being hesitant about going for a 5 mile run after completing P90X as it had been four months since I had last done it. My 5 mile time dropped by 2 minutes while carrying around 10 extra pounds of muscle. My legs felt great and did not hurt thanks to the P90X Legs and Back routine.

For any of you runners out there who are thinking that P90X will mess up their routine I can personally tell you that it will not. You’re running will take a back seat for 3 months but in that time you will be working on muscle groups that need to be worked on to improve your times and limit injuries. Once you are done with the 90 days you will have a revamped body that is strong from head to toe. I highly suggest you pick up a copy of P90X.

All you need to do the workout is a pull up bar, resistance bands or dumbbells, and the P90X DVDs. You can get them at the <a
