Today was the first time in awhile that I ran 5 miles. I have been feeling kind of out of it since last friday. I do not know what it is but I just could not get my energy levels up. I went swimming yesterday and could only get half of my normal 30 laps in. It might have been mental but I just could not push through.

I went about my normal daily routine and at night I decided to go for a run. I knew I needed to do something. I was not going to do any P90X workouts because I am trying to stick with a cardio routine and drop a little bit of weight. There is something that hits a switch in my head when I am running. Its either "3 miles sounds good" or "lets keep going." There is a point in my run where I can either take a left at an intersection and it will be a 3 mile run or I keep going and I am at the farthest point away from my house and its a 5 mile run whatever way I go. I decided to do the 5 miles. I was surprised that I was able to do it. I was not going real fast but I completed it all without taking any breaks. The P90X DVDs probably have something to do with this. I think it has been 2 months since I have gone for a run that far. Its great knowing that all of the strength training in my legs has helped out.

What is funny to me about running is that my body remembers things and all of sudden will wake up when its not use to doing something. This has happened to me a couple times, especially when I was training for the Detroit Marathon. When I was training I would normally do 5 miles every other day and then on Saturday I would do a 10 mile run. My body seemed to get more energy after doing the 5 miles. My mile times were faster after the 5 miles than before it. It goes to show you how amazing our bodies are and what they can do. I take the same mentality when I do P90X.
