It has been almost 4 days since I did the P90X Legs and Back workout and my legs and butt are still sore. I have been waddling like a penguin for the last couple days and its starting to suck. I went and did some swimming the other day and once I started moving everything kind of loosened up. Since then its been a struggle. I am not feeling as sore as two days ago but by now its usually gone. My legs are probably telling me that I need to get out of the pool and start running and doing more cardio. That is when I tell my body to shut up and deal with it. With Thanksgiving being tomorrow I need to burn some calories because I know that I am going to fat out. My aunt always makes an amazing meal. To make sure I have some space for the amount of food I am going to consume I will have to burn some serious calories today. Off to the pool and after that its time to sit in the sauna and sweat out as much fluids in my body as I can.

Pull ups and chin ups are the meat and potatoes of P90X. You do them in almost all of the P90X DVDs. For some people it is really hard to do pull ups. Actually, its pretty hard for everybody if you never did them in the past or you do not have enough body strength. heck, my brother struggled with doing them for 3 months before he could finally do 5 pull ups.

I always believe that the hardest thing about doing pull ups is getting it through your head that you can do them. A lot of the process of doing chin ups is mental. Yes, you do need to have muscle but once you tell yourself you can do them you have already done one.

Let's say you are frustrated because every time you do a P90X workout you just are not seeing any gains in your numbers or in your body. You dread waiting for the next time you do P90X because the chin up bar is laughing at you.

I learned this great tip from my girlfriends roommate. This is going to sound funny but it makes sense. We were at their place and her roommate was talking about a guy she used to date who moved from Michigan to New York City. He is into acting and dancing. The kind of acting and dancing where you strip for money. Yup, he's a male stripper. She kept talking about how hot he was and of course needed to show me a photo of him with his shirt off. The guy was in shape. I won't knock that.

Then she started talking about when she went to visit him in his apartment a year ago. She asked him why he had all of these "bars" between the door frames going from room to room. It was a typical 1 bedroom New York City apartment. His reply was that every time he walked to a new room he would do 5 chin ups. She could not believe he would do such a thing. It made sense to me. He's a stripper and needs to stay in shape. It also got me thinking that this was a genius of an idea. Think about how many times a day you walk between rooms and how many times you would have to do a chin up.

I tried this on myself yesterday. What I did was every time I went from the upper to the lower floor in my house I would do 5 chin ups. My pull up bar is hanging from the door frame of a spare bedroom next to mine. I ended up doing 40 chin ups yesterday and I didn't even workout. It only took 7 seconds to do the chin ups so it wasn't a great deal of time. You can check out my P90X results to see how much more defined my back muscles are from doing all of those chin ups and pull ups to see why its so important to do them.

What I like about this is it creates a habit but also gets you into the mindset of doing pull ups. Imagine if you struggle to do pull ups right now and you followed this technique. Every time you walked into one room in your house where you kept the chin up bar and had to do just 1 pull up. You might end up doing 10 pull ups that day alone. The next time you actually workout you would be ready to crank out some pull ups and chin ups. Hopefully you can use this tip to help you get over your fear of doing pull ups.

When you break this workout down it really is a simple old school workout. This use to be a workout I hated to do when I first started doing P90X but it really helped me in all levels of my fitness.

The P90X Back and Biceps workout has 24 different exercises.
Just catching up on a couple days off from writing. Over the past couple of days I did the P90X Chest and Back DVD and Plyometrics. It had been some time since I had done the chest and back workout. For some reason I skip over it a lot and I now remember why. It is hard. All of those push ups and pull ups really get into my head. Its not that I can't do them, its just that you use pretty much every muscle in your upper body while doing it. Also, I have not been doing that many chest exercises in the past couple of weeks. With the cardio routine that I have been sticking to for the most part I substituted a lot of chest workouts with a swimming workout. As we all know, swimming for the most part is all upper body. I have not felt like I have not been working on those muscles but just different parts of those. I was still able to match all of my P90X results from the last time I had done the chest and back workout but man was I feeling sore the next day. Every time I looked at that chin up bar I really had to get pumped to rip out a couple reps.

I worked out in the morning because I had a softball game at night. It was windy and it was blowing in from right to left. This did not help me because I am keeping to my goal of hitting a home run. Talk about getting close. I turned on one and I remember it heading down the line. In my head I was like "I got it." Rounding first base I saw the left fielder still running. While running to second I saw the ball hit the bottom of the fence. The ball traveled 330 feet but needed to hang in the air another half a second and it would of cleared the 7 foot fence. Disappointed I was but a stand up triple is not the bad. It was a shame that the wind was gusting up to 15 mph because it was still that ball would have carried. Crazy thing is that I did the same thing two innings later. This time I hit it to left center and it hit the warning track. Stupid wind knocking down the ball. I know I have said it before, but P90X is a great softball workout and it will help you hit for power. I have two more weeks to hit one out and then playoffs. Hopefully the wind will be blowing out one of this weeks and I can achieve this goal of mine.

So the next day I woke up and my arms and chest were tight and sore from doing P90X chest and back along with two softball games. It hurt to do any kind of stretching. I had planned to go swimming but I knew that doing so would just destroy my arms and I didn't want to feel all sore before this weekend. I am going up to my college's homecoming football game and would like to enjoy it instead of not being able to lift my arms up. Doing P90X Plyometrics DVD was the logical choice. This way I could get the legs warmed up and burn off some major calories before I head up to the old stomping grounds for the weekend. No problems getting through Plyometrics. It doesn't matter how hard I work at that P90X DVD it is always going to burn some major calories. This P90X workout always makes me feel it the next day but I like it.

Not much else to do now but get ready for the weekend. I'll probably go for a 5 mile run today to burn off as many calories as I can because I know I am going to consuming a ton more at tailgating. Next week I know I am going to have to work extra hard at P90X because I know I am going to party it up this weekend.

The P90X Chest And Back routine is one of the hardest P90X exercises. It focuses so much on the chest and back muscles that if you do not feel sore the next day you did not do this routine correctly. With so much effort put on doing push ups and pull ups your upper body is going to get the workout of a lifetime. The P90X Chest And Back routine goes like this: chest, back, chest, back until your done.

The chest part of the routine involves doing standard push ups, military push ups, diamond push ups, wide fly push ups, dive bomber push ups, and decline push ups. You will do all of these workouts twice through out the one hour. Tony Horton demands you to go all out for each push up routine for at least one minute. You are working on so many different areas of your chest during this time period.

The back part involves lots of pull ups. The variety of pull ups and chin ups are wide front pull ups, reverse grip chin ups, and closed grip overhand pull ups and you do these twice. Your pull up bar gets a lot of use here. A couple of other back workouts are "lawnmowers" which is where you get into a lunge with a weight of your choice and pull it up like your trying to start a lawnmower. Back flys are where you get a weight and sit on the edge of a chair with weights behind your heels and you bring the weight up pinching your shoulder blades together at the top. Heavy Pants refers to a workout in which you have one foot forward with bent knees and you lift the weights up in a motion like you are trying to pick up your pants.

My first time doing P90X Chest and Back I was able to do 8 total pull/chin ups during the entire workout. Before P90X my form of exercise was running and the only upper body workout I did was push ups. Usually I would do about a 100 total after a 3 mile run. The chest muscles were there so during my many times of doing P90X Chest and Back my push up reps stayed about the same as I was in good shape there already. My biggest gains were with the back muscles. First time I did "lawnmowers" I used a 30 pound dumbbell and did 10 reps. After my 90 days were up I was using a 52 pound dumbbell and doing 15 reps. Doing pull/chin ups became my favorite exercise. I was able to do 53 total pull/chin ups one time. That is quite a big gain going from 8 to 53.

After my 90 days were up I took a video of me doing P90X Chest and Back. In this video you can see how many push ups and pull ups you will be doing. I had to edit some of the workouts to make it fit in the 10 minutes given to me by YouTube. In this one I did 48 total pull/chin ups. It was not my best performance as I was a little tired that day but still very good.
