P90X Is The New Year Resolution

By Brad Gibala On December 29, 2008 Under P90X

The New Year is coming up in a couple of days and you are probably thinking about what you are going to do this year to make changes in your life. We all reflect back on the past year and think about what we could have done differently whether it was at your job, at school, and my favorite, your health. How many times have you been at a New Years party and thought in your head that this was the year you were going to get into shape? If you are saying it this time you have probably said it every New Years Eve for the past 10 years. Most people who are in decent shape say this is the year they run a marathon or train for a triathlon. What you need to do is first get to the step where you can say that.

Living a healthy life is becoming more and more important due to rising health care costs. One of the best remedies to high health care bills is living a healthy active life. I love talking to people who say getting into shape is such a hard task. Its always my friends who when I met them were in great shape in college or in high school and have kind of let themselves go. Its not that their fat its that they do not have the energy to go out and do activities like skiing or mountain biking anymore. It sucks because they are my friends and now I think twice about inviting them because I know they are not going to last.

Let's talk about your New Years Resolution of "losing weight" or getting back into shape or even just "getting into shape." What do people do every year? All of them go to their local gym and buy a membership. I tend to stay away from the gym in January because all of the people who have bought are there working on their New Years Resolution. I'm happy that they are there and most at least make it for the first two weeks and then right around February 1st the crowds die down again and things start going back to normal. Then right around March 1st you see a lot of the same faces who were there before the New Year. So why does this happen? The answer is education.

Education? Yup, knowledge. What most people do when they head back to the gym is go back to all of their old workout routines from when they were in high school. This is effective for the first two weeks. You feel little to no gain at all and grow bored of your workout. After getting bored you start making up excuses for not heading back to the gym and end up heading back to your old habits. So how does knowledge get into this?

When working out you need to switch things up so your body does not know whats coming and more importantly you need somebody to guide you through the process. Having somebody keeping tabs on you and pushing you is one of the most important aspects of exercising. But who can you depend on to do this? Friends, family members, maybe? How about a personal trainer? They tend to be a little bit pricey but maybe you will get a deal if you sign up for the gym membership on the first week of January like every one else.

The best thing you can do for yourself is read about this workout called P90X. What P90X will teach you is how to get into shape in such a way that you will never get bored and keep you motivated. The secret to this workout is that you are changing your workouts every 30 days over a 90 day period. During every 30 days you are doing 5 different workouts ranging from yoga to abs to cardio to pull ups to legs to chest. You name it your doing it. After every 30 days you will be introduced to 3 new workouts continuing on until 90 days.

The P90X workout is loaded with exercises you would never of thought to do. The knowledge comes from trainer Tony Horton. This guy is 46 years old and is ripped. Yup, ripped. When you throw the P90X DVDs in you can only hope to be to keep up with the guy. I mean, he's 46. The cool part is that he is there giving you great tips and encouragement because he knows you are going to struggle. He is your personal trainer for 90 days and your support staff. The best part about each workout is that every P90X DVD is only about 1 hour long. This is plenty of time to do it every day. Think about how much time you spend driving to the gym, changing, waiting for equipment to open up, working out, showering, getting dressed and driving back to your home or work. Its probably around 2 hours. P90X is meant to be done at your house. All you need are the P90X DVDs, a pull up bar, and dumbbells or resistance bands.

If your "New Years Resolution" is to get in shape or lose weight then you should start out on a path to help you succeed and not make the same mistakes you have in the past. Learn how to workout in such a way where you will see improvement and more importantly where it still fun. If you need some encouragement check out my P90X results. It worked for me.

When you buy the P90X DVDs you will want to get them with the pull up bar and resistance bands. You are going to need it so you might as well buy it together to save on shipping costs. Go to the Beachbody Store to get the P90X DVDs, pull up bar, and resistance bands. If you do not have dumbbells then I highly recommend the Bowflex Selecttech dumbbells. They are so easy to use and do not take up a ton of space.

With just these simple workouts you will be able to get into amazing shape. Think about what you will look like when April 1st comes rolling around and you for the first time will have actually followed through on your New Years Resolution. You will probably get hooked on P90X so much you will continue to do it. Skip on the gym membership this year and avoid the crowds. Get into great shape with P90X at home while working it into your lifestyle. P90X will be the best investment you will make for yourself for the New Year.
