Getting Started

Congratulations on taking the time to read this. It means you have decided to take control of your health and fitness. I have learned a lot about what it takes to get in shape using many of Beachbody’s workout programs. I am living proof that you can get great results while working out at home and am here to help you achieve your goals too.

Where Do You Start?

1. Choose A Workout Program And Make Me Your Coach

If you already have a workout program then sign up for a Free Beachbody Account. Doesn’t cost you anything and it makes me your coach. You’ll have me to help you every step of the way on your journey to reach your fitness goals.

If you have not chosen a workout program yet then you have many options to choose from. Too busy to workout? Do the 10 Minute Trainer. Ready to do something extreme? Then go for P90X or Insanity. Want to push yourself like never before? Then go with Asylum or P90X2. You also have the option to do something in between like Les Mills Pump, Power 90, ChaLean Extreme, or Turbo Fire. You can view all of these in the Beachbody Store. For most people just committing your time and money to a workout program is all you can do for now. That is totally fine. I was in the same place before I started P90X. If this is you then just pick a program and start there.

Are you one of those people who like to have everything figured out from the get go? Then I recommend you buy a Beachbody Challenge Pack. You’ll save up to $80 by ordering one of these packs. They include a fitness program, Shakeology, club membership, along with free shipping. The discounted packs will appear after you sign up for a free account. More importantly, it enrolls you into the contests to give you some motivation to workout.

2. Find Out What Equipment You’ll Need

Turbo Fire and Insanity only need a DVD player. P90X, Power 90, and ChaLean Extreme need dumbbells or resistance bands. I own the Bowflex Selecttech dumbbells and bands. You’ll be fine with a variety pack of bands if the dumbbells take up too much space or are out of your price range. P90X requires a pull up bar but bands can be used. Other equipment I use are the Tony Horton Push Up Stands, Chin Up Max, and Jump Mat. Some of those items come with a program in a deluxe package at a discounted price in the Beachbody Store.

3. Keep Track Of Everything

It’s important to take before photos and measurements to see how much progress you are making. You’ll need to see the proof. Each workout program comes with a measurement tracker and tool. This is one thing I wish I would have done a better job of in the beginning. Take my advice on this one as it lets you celebrate each small goal along the way.

4. Take The Time To Learn About Nutrition

This is probably the hardest for most people and it was for me. Your workout results are directly related to what you put into your body. Tony Horton has said that over 70% of your results are attributed to the foods you eat. You need to follow the meal plans that come with the workouts to the best of your abilities. Get crazy with following what you eat. What helps me is using a calorie counter app (My Fitness Pal) on my iPhone. Many people who are committed to the workouts say they know they’re getting stronger but can’t see the results yet. After some discussion it all comes back to them not changing what they are eating. In each program it will run you through a set of questions that will help you determine how much you should be eating to achieve your goals (get toned, lean, bulk up). Shakeology is a must. It simplifies the nutrition and guarantees at least one good meal a day for you. It wasn’t until I started taking Shakeology did I start seeing more results and felt healthier all around. I know it may seem expensive at $120 a bag but remember that your putting a highly nutritious product in your body. Never go cheap on what you put in your body or you’ll be paying for it later.

5. It’s not going to be easy

The workouts are hard. Eating right is hard. Breaking old habits is hard. You’ll probably not like it at first. You’ll be sore. You’ll be tired. You’ll feel like crap. My advice…suck it up and push play. Showing up is the most important thing to do. We’ve all experienced those days you don’t want to workout and want to fat out on some free junk food at work. People who want results and change in their lives push through the pain and keep going. Don’t be a quitter. You will have to make a commitment that no matter how you feel you will keep showing up and keep pushing yourself to improve. It takes 21 days to create a new habit. The first month is brutal but you can get through it. Focus on showing up everyday it says to workout and the results will follow.

6. Set big goals

I keep pushing myself everyday and the results keep on rolling in. Playing sports, skiing, snowboarding, and other things I do are more fun now because I am fit. Wish I would have had somebody teach me these things in high school!! If you do the same you’ll enjoy the things you like to do that much more. Our paths to achieving results will look different but if you are taking steps everyday to get yourself closer to your goal then I can guarantee you will get there. I often get asked how soon will you start to see results and my answer is it depends. Are you doing the workouts when the guide says too? Are you following the meal plans? If yes, then you’ll start seeing results very soon. If you’re doing half and half then its going to take longer. Put all your doubts and “I cant’s” aside and focus on your goal. Get excited about that goal and hold yourself accountable. I’ll be there to hold you accountable too. Are you ready to change your life?
