title="P90X Workout" href="http://workoutjourney.com/what-do-you-need-to-do-the-p90x-workout/">P90X workout you need to do the P90X Fitness Test. Its going to tell you where you stand right now and give you something to compare to after you finish your 90 days. It’s also going to tell you if you should even do P90X right now or instead do something like the Power 90 workout to better prepare yourself. It takes about 40 minutes to complete and be sure to do the exercises in order. If you bought P90X you can find the instructions on how to do the P90X Fit Test in the workout guidebook. If you lost the book then here is everything you need to know.

What Do You Need For The P90X Fitness Test?

Heart Rate Monitor

Body Fat Tester

Tape Measure

Scale

Chin-Up Bar

Timer

What Are The P90X Fitness Test Moves?

Resting Heart Rate – If you don’t have a heart rate monitor than take your pulse by counting the beats on your neck or wrist for 30 seconds than multiply by 2.

10 Minute Warm Up – Jumping Jacks or a light jog in place. Enough to build up a sweat.

Pull Ups – Do as many wide grip pull ups until failure. Men should be able to do 3 and women 1. If you can’t do any which is common for a lot of people than use resistance bands instead.

Rest 1 Minute

Vertical Leap – Put your arm straight up against a wall and record the height. Then take one step back and jump up. Record the differences between the two to get your vertical leap. Men should have a leap of at least 5 inches and 3 inches for women.

Rest 4 Minutes

Push Ups – As many as you can do to failure. Men should be able to do 15 and 3 for women.

Rest 4 Minutes

Toe Touch – Measure how far you can reach past (or not) past your toes. No less than minus 6 inches for men and women.

Rest 4 Minutes

Wall Squat – Record how long you can stay in a chair position pressed against the wall. Should be able to do at least 1 minute.

Rest 4 Minutes

Bicep Curls – Do as many front facing bicep curls as you can. Should want to select a weight you think you will max out at 10-15 reps. Men should be able to do 10 curls with 20 lbs and 10 curls with 8 lbs for women.

Rest 3 Minutes

In & Outs – Raise feet off the ground. Bring knees in towards your chest and then straighten them back out. Do as many as you can without touching the floor. Should be able to do at least 25.

Rest 4 Minutes

Heart Rate Maximizer – Jumping Jacks for 2 minutes non stop with the last 30 seconds being as fast as you can go. Record your heart rate immediately after, 1 minute after, 2 minutes after, 3 minutes after, and 4 minutes after. You should be able to complete the 2 minutes of jumping jacks.

Write all of your numbers down as you will record them on day 90 also. This is the best way to compare how far you’ve come with P90X. If you did more than the minimums for each then you are ready to get started with P90X. You only need to figure out if the Lean, Classic, or Doubles routine is best for you. If you were able to do more than the minimum on most of the moves then you’ll be able to get started with P90X. It’s normal for most people to not get a couple of them. If you did not hit the minimums on any of them then you might want to look at doing Power 90 to build up your strength and then come back to P90X. There are people who will power through and do well with P90X even though they don’t do well with the P90X Fit Test. Keep in mind that the first month or two will probably be very challenging.
Post from: <a

I get a lot of emails from people who take the time to read the P90X workout schedule but decide not to follow it. This kind of baffles me. Usually, the email I get is from somebody who is just grabbing whatever disc is available and they wonder why they’re not seeing results. In this case though you really need to follow the P90X workout schedule through your first round of P90X.

The program is put together in a way to challenge you from head to toe. Each phase is designed to work specific muscles over the 90 days. How are you going to know what you can get out of P90X if you’re not following it? Do yourself a favor and complete your first round of P90X the way its designed to be done in the <a

Sometimes Beachbody will replace broken discs within the first 90 days. But let’s say a friend gave you their old DVDs and all but two of them work or you lost one. There is an option to buy single workouts. One of my only complaints with Beachbody is they don’t offer single DVDs of the original P90X workout. What Beachbody does offer is the opportunity to buy single workouts for $20 from the P90X One on One series or what used to be called the Tony Horton One on One workouts.

The workouts are all done at Tony’s house hence the One on One title. The camera guy, Mason Bendewald (Mason Twists from Ab Ripper X) is the only other person in there. It makes for a little different setting than P90X without the cast members. Instead of trying to keep up with somebody in the background you now have to pace yourself against Tony. Here is a list of the workouts.

<a

Then get the “Fountain of Youth” or “Yoga MC:2″. Missing P90X Chest and Back? Then get “30/15 – Upper Body Massacre”. I have done the 30/15 workout and will say its one of the hardest workouts Tony has come out with. Its 6 or so sets of 30 different pushups then 15 different pull ups for an hour. My arms were on fire. Tony even has to take a break. Missing P90X Ab Ripper X? Then get “Killer Abs”. Thats one of my favorite ab workouts. Tony combines some of the Power 90 and Ab Ripper X moves into this one. My abs are sore for at least two days after this. Those workouts and a couple other ones came in the original Tony Horton 1 on 1 Volume 1 series that I own. Most of the workouts titled P90X One on One are actually P90X2 workouts. I’m sure you get how this goes from here. Find something that’s similar in name to the disc that doesn’t work/is scratched/broken/lost and buy one that has a similar name. <a

It’s the one move which shows how strong you are from head to toe. It’s really easy for people to give up after not being able to do one pull up on the first day of P90X. We’ve all been there. P90X Chest and Back is a beast of workout. It’s a matter of what you do after trying them that will determine your results with P90X. There are a lot of ways to get better at doing pull ups. Tony Horton shows you a couple different ways to modify the pull up in P90X so you build up your strength to be able to do unassisted ones in the future. Those modifications are:

Use A Chair – This takes some of the weight off the bar so you can focus on doing the move.

Chin Up Max - Has three resistance bands and a foot strap that clip onto your P90X Pull Up Bar. Put your foot into the hole and use the momentum for the bands to assist you with the pull up. As close as you can get to doing unassisted pull ups.

Door Attachment Kit - It’s simply a loop you wrap around a door hinge or pull up bar and put a resistance band through it. Comes with three resistance bands.

I use all three of them. My favorite would be the Chin Up Max ($40) because you work so much more of your body. The Door Attachment Kit ($45) is nice to have if you just don’t have a lot of energy that day and its also is easy to put in a suitcase when traveling. If doing unassisted pull ups is a ways away yet then get the door attachment kit. It will build up the muscles needed to do regular pull ups. If you can do one pull up or are not that out of shape then you will want to get the P90X Pull Up Bar because you will be doing pull ups in no time. You can find all of these items at the Beachbody Store under the Equipment and Gear tab. Here is how I have them set up at my house.

<a

Both are moves that Tony Horton shows you how to do in P90X. If you can find the money to buy those and the P90X Pull Up Bar then go and get them. There is no better feeling of accomplishment then seeing your reps go up on the pull up bar.
Post from: buy P90X.

Turns out that a lot of people don’t like this because he is against Obamacare but put the purchase of P90X down as a “health care” expense. They say this is being hypocritical because he is using the Governments money to buy what could be considered health care. I think these arguments are funny because people try to use this as another example why Washington D.C is not working. My argument is its working beautifully…for the people who work there.
Post from: P90X DVDs. But there are a couple of things you want to do before you get at it. These things are important because it will set you up to get the best results you can from the workout. If you fail to do these simple things then you might get frustrated that you’re not seeing results or realize you messed up and feel like you have to start over.

Do These Before Day 1 Of P90X

Read The P90X Workout Guidebook – Tony Horton and the people at Beachbody put this book together to give you the knowledge behind P90X. You’ll learn what each move is called, why the meal plans are important, what equipment you need to do P90X, and most importantly what version of P90X to do. Picking P90X Lean, P90X Classic, or P90X Doubles will set you on the right path to achieve your fitness goals. I recommend P90X Classic because it will show you very quickly where you stand with your fitness. Tony also gives some tips and advice to help you get through all 90 days.

Put Up The P90X Calendar – This way you see it when you walk in or out of your house everyday. Cross off workouts as you go so you feel like your making progress.

Read The P90X Meal Plan – Over 70% of your results will come from what you eat. The P90X Nutrition Plan is a in-depth plan that tells you exactly what you need to be eating to provide the right balance of fuel your body needs to get through P90X. Trust me when I say its important. I thought I ate right before starting P90X so I didn’t read it. While I did get much stronger in my first round of P90X I didn’t see the definition I was expecting. Went through the guide, made some small changes in my diet, and what a difference it made.

You should be able to get all of these done in about an hour. You’ll be opening the workout guidebook and meal plan every once in a while as you move through each phase so keep them handy. Take the meal plan guide book with you grocery shopping if you need to. Doing these tasks before you start Day 1 of P90X will make a big difference in your results.
Post from: P90X Recovery Drink or other supplements will make a big difference with their results. I’m not a nutritionist so I can’t explain the breakdown of what each of the ingredients do to your body. Some people are big into supplements and some are not. Before starting P90X the only nutrition product I had been taking was a Whey Protein shake. This is fairly common with most people whether they workout or not. But what about other supplements and the P90X Recovery Drink?

My First Round Of P90X

I did not take any supplements at all during my first 90 days of P90X. The only thing I did do was continued on with a protein shake after each resistance workout. I was in good shape before starting P90X from my previous 2 years of running almost 20 miles a week. But I was not in P90X shape. I cannot tell you how sore I would get after most of the P90X workouts. Whatever workout I did two days ago would be the group of muscles that was killing that day. This was common for the entire 90 days. Was pleased with the P90X results I earned in my first round of P90X that I came back for another round.

I Start Using The P90X Recovery Drink For Round Two

I broke down and bought the P90X Recovery Drink after hearing Tony Horton mention it in almost every workout. Finished off my tub of Whey Protein before getting it because money was tight at the time. Wanted to see if it was everything it was cracked up to be. Didn’t really start noticing the differences it made until the second week after taking it because I wasn’t noticing something I had noticed all the time before. Soreness. It now lasted one day. Some of it could be because I was on round two and have mastered some of the moves but I was pushing harder this time. At the end of round two of P90X I started seeing more definition and didn’t hurt as much. The P90X Recovery Drink was making an impact. Felt like I could recover much faster from the workouts and be ready to get at it again.

What About Other P90X Supplements?

I’ve been buying the P90X Recovery Drink since finishing round two and will continue to use it after every workout. Was still curious to see what the other P90X supplements could do for me. Picked up a box of the P90X vitamins during round 4 of P90X. These bad boys were potent. The directions said to take 6 at a time or 3 twice a day. If you took all 6 at one time you could feel it going to work on your system asap. Kind of like a shot of energy. I didn’t notice any benefits from it in regards to my workouts. Was still taking the recovery drink to help with that. It was not until I started using Shakeology in 2010 did I notice results in how I felt and my overall health. Had this steady level of energy and cannot remember the last time I got sick.

Do You Need To Buy Supplements For P90X?

You don’t have to but if I was to recommend buying any of them then I would go with Shakeology and then the P90X Recovery Drink. I don’t see a need for the P90X Multi-Vitamins because the ingredients are in Shakeology. The P90X Recovery Drink ingredients are also in Shakeology but the reason you still want the P90X drink is because it has a lot of the ingredients you just burned from your system doing P90X. You need to get those back in your system so the body can repair and grow.

If you stick with these two supplements then you should get some results faster and feel the benefits of using it. I use both of these products even when I’m not doing P90X. Shakeology in the morning and the P90X Recovery Drink after any workout (swimming, biking, snowboarding, etc.) If you have any questions about the products then leave a question below for me. Otherwise you can go to the American Council of Exercise just recently competed a test of P90X. Their study found out that P90X meets or exceeds recognized standards for improving cardiorespiratory fitness. The Department of Exercise and Sport Science and Physical Therapy at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse took a group of 16 healthy people ranging from 19 to 26 years of age and put them through three sessions of P90X Legs & Back, Plyometrics, Cardio X, and Chest Shoulders Triceps.

“P90X is among the most popular of the high-intensity, interval-style home workout exercise programs sweeping the nation, many of which promise to help individuals burn high amounts of calories in a short period of time,” said American Council on Exercise’s Chief Science Officer, Cedric X. Bryant, Ph.D. “Our study results found P90X offers an effective workout, and, when combined with a sensible eating plan, we believe it can help many individuals achieve their weight-loss and fitness goals in the comfort of their homes.”

I still think its funny that Tony Horton is not a certified personal trainer and that’s exactly what ACE does. Whats interesting about the study is they only did a couple of the workouts three different times. I think they did themselves and P90X a big disservice. It’s like they only completed the first month of P90X without giving them a chance to see what kind of results they can get over 90 days. Plus, they missed out on some of the hardest P90X workouts like Ab Ripper X, Chest & Back, and Back & Biceps. I smell conspiracy. Probably wouldn’t be a good idea to tell people that P90X does everything they do for $120 without all the certifications and fees to get the ACE Certification. Just kidding. Or am I?
Post from: <a

I cannot tell you how many times people have emailed me complaining about why they are not seeing results with P90X in the first 30 days. Many give up because there isn’t instant gratification. There is a little bit of science that goes along with P90X and the first 30 days are there to wake your body up. Its no reason to give up because the results typically start rolling in around day 45. There are some things you can do to make sure you start seeing results in the first month and this is what I’ve found people are not doing to get them.

You’re Not Following One Of The P90X Workout Plans

Lots of people get the P90X DVDs in the mail, pick out the first dvd, and start getting to work. They did not take the time to open up the P90X Workout Guidebook and read it which would explain how to do all 90 days. What ends up happening is they only get through each workout maybe two times in the first 30 days and that’s assuming they don’t miss a day. Doing it that way won’t challenge the muscle groups targeted in month 1 of the Lean, Classic, or Doubles routine. Take the time to go through all of the materials and read what Beachbody and Tony Horton have put together. My recommendation is to start with the P90X Classic routine and stick with it.

You’re Not Following The P90X Nutrition Plan

This is probably the biggest reason why you’re not seeing results. This is also the one I struggled with understanding in my first and second rounds of P90X. Tony Horton has said that over 70% of your results will come from eating correctly. Still eating fast food, junk food, having that 500 calorie Starbucks coffee in the morning, and the daily Pepsi / Mountain Dew? Those things are hindering your results no matter how hard you are working out. You might feel stronger but can’t see the changes in the mirror yet and its because of those foods / drinks. Over weight people might see changes if they haven’t changed their eating that much because they have a lot to lose. I fell into the category of being in shape before and ate well 75% of the time which made seeing the definition a little harder in those first 30 days. Shakeology really helped me a lot and it’s why I’ve been buying the stuff every month since it came out in 2010. If you’re not using Shakeology then I recommend you buy it today as it really simplifies the nutrition aspect of P90X.

You’re Not Pushing Play Enough

Don’t think you’re going to get the P90X results you see from people on the infomercials, YouTube videos, or on other websites if you’re only working out 3 days or less a week. I’m sorry, it’s not going to happen. You might see some small changes and feel a little healthier but you are doing yourself a disservice thinking your going to have dramatic life changing results in 90 days by only working out 36 times in those 90 days. You missed 54 workouts. How are you going to burn the fat or build muscle if you’re not showing up? I’m happy that you are doing something but I feel that working out is the hardest habit to get into and it’s why you need to set yourself up to workout six days a week. Better to miss one or two days a week when you planned for 6 than miss one or two when you planned for three days. The nutrition plan is something that you can make dramatic changes with by sitting down at your dinner table for an hour and writing down a shopping list of things to buy for the next week. If you have good food around the house you’ll start eating good food when your at work or out and about. Working out is different because it forces you to do something you otherwise might not want to do. Make a habit of working out 5-7 hours a week and that 1 hour of writing down what to eat next week won’t seem like a big deal.

These are the 3 biggest reasons I’d say why people don’t see results in their first 30 days of doing P90X. If this sounds like you then you know what you need to do. Give it time. If your over-weight in the beginning then making a change in your eating will start to show dramatic changes. A friend of mine told me he was drinking one or two Mountain Dew’s a day at work for the past year. Told him to stop and go to water instead. He ended up dropping 9 pounds two weeks later. If you’re in shape and feeling the changes while working out everyday but don’t see muscle definition then you will need to dive back into the P90X meal plan and see what changes you need to make.
Post from: <a
